However, reports have shown that eastern countries are catching up, as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wipo.int\/portal\/en\/index.html\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer\">World Intellectual Property Organisation<\/a> (WIPO) statistics indicate. In 2018, the US held the number one spot with 22% of tech innovations, while China was slightly behind with 21%.<\/p>\n<p id=\"2-the-us-government-sector-received-only-1-of-the-patent-share-in-2016\">More than 80% of patents for manufacturing industries were granted to high and medium-high technology manufacturing industries in 2015.\u00a0Based on United States Patent and Trademark Office&#8217;s (USPTO) figures on intellectual property trends, high technology manufacturing received 61% of patents for manufacturing industries, while medium-high manufacturing industries received almost a quarter of patents. Evidently, the high technology manufacturing industry received a higher portion of patents issued by the US Patent and Trademark Office.<\/p>\n<p>The US Department of Commerce states that over 40 million jobs (that&#8217;s 27.7% of jobs) come from intellectual property intensive industries. For this reason, the US Intellectual Property Enforcement believes that intellectual property infringement can hurt not just the economy but the US labour force as well.<\/p>\n<p>38.2% of the US GDP comes from IP intensive industries. There\u2019s a strong connection between intellectual property, business development, and economic growth, and numbers prove it.
